About David Pace

I was born in the UK but grew up in Gozo, Malta.  I was always interested in art, and later photography from a young age.  My background is Information Technology and I am a Chartered Engineer (UK) and Eur Ing (EU) and also Fellow of the BCS in the UK. I spent my career working in corporate IT until 2002 when I went self-employed as a Web designer and web integration and hosting, which was a fantastic release as it enabled me to be expressive in design.  In the 90's I  self taught myself encaustic art (painting with wax) which is a centuries old artform but never exhibited my small works, nor had the inclination or time to do so.  When I returned to Gozo, Malta I continued my web development work and started a Real Estate business. This led me to further develop my skills in graphic and art design which led to my current creations. I am inspired by artistic styles including art nouveau, islamic and Celtic design forms, M.C.Escher, impossible concepts, tesselation and seamless designs, often used in tile and textile design.

My essentially abstract works derive from these inspirations and a selection are also evolved specifically from my photography to create unique pieces, which can be extremely hard to relate to the original images. I like a sense of mystery and often hide clues as to how a design evolved, depending on the piece. Many of my pieces have a metallic or natural finish, and display a feeling of depth..

I finish all my works are directly printed onto high quality Dibond Aluminium, though pieces can also be created in HD metal which has higher contrast but is also highly reflective. I feel my pieces work better on a matt surface.
