Angel Koi (Tancho)

Koi fish is one of my favorite subjects to paint, not just because of their striking beauty, but also because of the strong symbolism. Tancho Koi is the most precious type of Koi in Japanese culture, and it usually symbolizes good luck and longevity, however, the striking contrast between the white body and the blood-red mark on the head evokes strong feelings and associations, and I couldn't help but seeing a lethally wounded angel in it.
