About Ειρηνη Καλοχριστιανακη
I was born in Heraklion, Crete, in the autumn of 1980. My origin is from Archanes, a - not so small - village just outside Heraklion. I spent most of the weekends there, at my beloved grandmother's house. The smells of her sweets, the hundreds of flowers she had in her yard, but also of nature, will accompany me throughout my life. In 1998 I finished high school, without being able to pass the exams for the school of graphic design that I was aiming for. So I entered the Public Institute of Heraklion, in the Department of Byzantine icons art. From where I completed my studies in 2000. At one point I met George, also an artist but of the musical genre! So we mixed our artistic natures and without thinking about it at all, we settled permanently in Archanes. Therefore we made a crazy family with three kids. John - our elder - Christina and our little one Odysseus. As life flowed and the family grew ... what I had done until then with art was left behind. I was working in different jobs and I almost forgot what I liked to do. All my things - easels, brushes, paints and whatever else you can imagine, "were locked in the warehouse and the key was lost forever (?)". Until at some point, after ten years and after our Odysseus was born, the passion of painting and creation awoke again. Because as you know, old loves are never forgotten!
