About Wim Kornmann
Central to me is how a stone "comes to life", how there can be dynamics and balance in the stone and it does not remain a loose piece of stone. Furthermore, there is also room for personal interpretation.
I usually work from a number of sketches and then see how that is expressed in the stone and possibly adjust the design accordingly. Often, you encounter unexpected "gifts" in a stone that enrich the image and that I then respond to. My sculptures usually have the human body as a starting point, especially the face.
I work both manually and mechanically, usually with marble and granite, but sometimes also with serpentine, selenite, limestone.
