About Stefan Gross

Stefan Gross (Bendorf Germany, 1964) started as an apprentice glassmaker in a stained glass training program, where he learned to think in color. In 1988, he achieved his mastery in this field and subsequently graduated cum laude from the painting program in Saarbrücken. He moved to the Netherlands and worked here on a new technique, using a self-developed material: oil-plastic. Since 2006, he has mainly worked with this oil-plastic, which is created by dyeing industrial plastic with traditional oil paints. It is surface and paint in one and allows Stefan Gross to pull the painted surface into three dimensions. Oil-plastic is translucent and behaves like glass at a relatively low temperature. In a colorful way, Gross shows in his work the decay of a society based on growth.
