About Serghei Ghetiu

Serghei Ghetiu was born on January 1, 1976, in Soroca, a small town in Moldova. From a young age, he showed a strong interest in modeling clay and drawing. His artistic journey began with an exhibition in his nursery, followed by another at the local house of culture. This passion for drawing and painting left no doubt that he would pursue further studies in art. He attended art school, graduating successfully in 1991. However, as the College of Fine Arts was located in the capital, Chisinau, and he was only 15, he stayed home.

In the same year, Serghei faced a personal tragedy when his father passed away, which strained the family's finances. As a result, his plans to study in Chisinau had to be postponed. Serghei then served in the army, where he was quickly recognized for his artistic talent after sketching a few drawings for his fellow soldiers. This led to him becoming a regimental artist, making him quite popular within his military unit.

After completing his military service, Serghei was offered a permanent graphic design job in the capital, but he declined, fearing it would limit his creative freedom. At 21, he finally entered the College of Fine Arts "Alexandru Plămădeală" in Chisinau and passed the entrance exams. Unfortunately, financial difficulties forced him to leave after just six months. He then decided to work and kept painting as a hobby. At 26, Serghei returned to academia, this time studying linguistics. Recognizing the limited opportunities for artists in Moldova's economy, he chose a practical path and eventually earned a scholarship to study in Germany.

Serghei graduated with a degree in German Philology and Communication. During his studies, he continued to paint, selling some of his works on eBay. Afterward, he moved to Lithuania with his future wife, where he resides today. This move proved pivotal in his career as an artist. His knowledge of German philology was less relevant without knowing Lithuanian, so he focused on painting. Since then, Serghei has worked as a full-time artist, a profession he deeply loves. His paintings are held in private collections worldwide, particularly in the United States. He continues to hone his skills, creating vibrant and detailed works. His art is featured in galleries in Vilnius and Kaunas.

Serghei Ghetiu states, "Art for me is primarily about emotions, which I experience during the creative process. From childhood, I've enjoyed visualizing my feelings and moods, so I paint a wide range of subjects, including people, nature, and still lifes. My love of detail doesn't complicate the perception of my work; my years of experience allow me to work quickly and efficiently. My paintings reflect my emotional state, which is why they are so vivid and rich in detail."
