About the work
“can't control how you see me” explores the theme of not being able to control the way we are perceived. The mouth is distorted in order to convey the message of nothing that we could say could change certain points of perception. The pink ribbon in her hair, as well as the pink that blended to other areas of her features, represents self-expression, even in the midst and light of knowing that we have no control over the way we are perceived to some extent, so we are finding freedom there..
