About Rikus Koops
Since his puberty, Rikus Koops has been searching for ways to express abstractly the things that occupy him. Each work is a journey of discovery into the workings of surfaces, lines, and colors in the flat plane. Each work is a graphic study but also an expression of a quest for order in the world. With simple forms, Koops tries to provide insight into an infinite complexity. Mathematics and philosophy are important sources of inspiration in this. In these two, Koops seeks the laws that underlie the apparent disorder of reality. The answers from mathematics and philosophy alone are not complete for Koops. They are for the intellect but lack a feeling, an intuition. Art provides an intuitive answer.
Limitation is a core. At this moment, Koops is therefore only working with East India ink. In addition, he makes wall objects from papier-mâché.
