About Pietro Barbera
Pietro Barbera, engineer from Trapani (1959), lives and works in his hometown.
The beauties and contradictions of Sicily are too intense to leave an sensitive soul like his indifferent. The world of art opens up to him in its highest form: Poetry and Painting. Winner of numerous poetry awards. He composes and publishes numerous poetic collections.
Since March 2004, he has been creating a new form of artistic poetry through watercolors combined with poetic text, exhibiting them for the first time on the occasion of the Anteka Literary Prize (Erice, August 6-7, 2004). It is the approach to “figurative” Art. Pietro begins to experiment and it is by chance that he discovers a new pigment, ancient and symbolically powerful: wine. Thus the Vinarelli are born and Pietro conceptually adheres to Wine Art, making Bacchus' nectar an essential component of his works. His works become increasingly conscious, although they maintain the spontaneity and freshness of gestural and dreamlike painting, and wine is the revealer of images. Thanks to the combination of poetry and watercolor/vinarello, in 2008, Pietro is chosen as a poet for readings during Italian literature at Ramapo College University (NJ) USA and, in April 2009, he gives a lecture “on my poetry and my painting at Ramapo College University (NJ) USA”.
Pietro Barbera's Di-vin Art has been exhibited, among others, in various exhibitions including those held in Trapani (2005 - Presidency of the Regional Province of Trapani), Verona (2007 - Vinitaly), Pavia (2007 – Pavia Exhibitions), New York (2007), Marsala (2007 - Cantine Florio), New Jersey (2009 - Ramapo College University), Tunis (2010 - Palazzo Dar Bach Hamba, managed by the Orestiadi Foundation of Gibellina), Palermo (2010 - castle UTVEGGIO), Salemi (2010 – Castle, promoted by the Sgarbi Foundation) and Trapani (2011 – Palazzo della Vicaria), and in the following years exhibited in public city venues or thematic events.
