About the work

Women’s Cry

For centuries, women have been treated as second-class citizens in many societies. They have been subjected to violence, rape, and reduced to sexual objects. But a woman is neither an object nor an inferior being.

The artist portrays women from different ethnic backgrounds in his works and reveals their pain and struggle. Women are depicted with only one eye instead of two, symbolizing the fact that they are ignored, abused, raped, and oppressed by society – and tragically often even murdered. These artworks serve as a powerful reminder that we must stop the ongoing violence against women.

The works show portraits of a woman in Japan who is seen as a sex worker or maid, a woman in Africa who fights against hunger, a woman within the Indian community who is regarded as sacred and fierce, a woman in India who is honored, a Kurdish woman who stands up against injustice, and women from many other ethnic backgrounds. These women, caught between life and death, share one universal reality: everywhere in the world, the woman is the same!

Why must women, who have symbolized fertility, creation, and holiness since the oldest beliefs, still fight for their right to exist today?

For the artist, the woman is sacred!
