HOMOGENEUS
About the work
HOMOGENEUS
In this artwork, the artist addresses gender inequality and gender freedom. Homosexuality is when an individual of a certain sex feels romantically or sexually attracted to another individual of the same sex or when there is sexual interaction between these two individuals.
The artwork depicts a figure that bears both male and female characteristics and symbolizes the gender discrimination and hostility towards the LGBT+ community, one of the greatest problems in the world. The fact that the figure has no mouth indicates that homosexuals in many parts of the world cannot make their voices heard and their rights to live are taken away.
The artwork is interpreted in a dual manner. On one hand, it draws attention to the fact that we live in a world where the rights of LGBT+ individuals are ignored, where thousands of homosexuals are forced into suicide or murdered daily. On the other hand, it emphasizes that homosexuality is not a shame, but something to be proud of.
The artist states that besides the two genders, there can also exist an identity that carries characteristics of both genders and that this is not cursed, but rather sacred. Therefore, he portrays not only the pain of LGBT+ individuals in his work but also their pride and honor. The colors of the LGBT+ flag in the background symbolize the dignity and pride of this community.
With this artwork, the artist dreams of a world without gender discrimination, where homosexuals can live freely.
