Deep Darkness
About the work
Deep Darkness
This is hell!
The work depicts a dilapidated, gray, and gloomy space – a place where those who have done evil are punished.
In the center stands a homophobic and anti-LGBTQ+ figure: Leon.
In his left hand, Leon holds a heart. From the veins of the heart drip paint streaks, symbolizing that he has murdered someone because of their sexual orientation.
Behind him, fiery lava flows rise, representing "purity" – but also the innocence he has destroyed.
Leon’s right arm is severed and mutilated; this symbolizes that his faith has abandoned him. His lower body is gone, and from his chest hangs a torn, innocent eye. This eye symbolizes the victims he has harmed.
For Leon, there is no escape anymore. That eye is a burden he will carry with him forever. He is nothing more than a soul suffering from the pain of his own actions…
