You Are A Small Flame In The Darkness

I made this piece when I was in the depths of a very dark depression. In such states it is difficult to see beyond the darkness and sense of loss of self. However, whilst in this state this image came to me - a small flame of humanity that still burned in the darkness - a sense of being inextinguishable - an image of hope and endurance. I am a great admirer of William Blake - his use of colour, his symbolism and his dogged individuality. This painting is influenced by his method of working and the fierce spirit which drives it.
