"Through a Glass Darkly"
About the work
An Anamorphic or Shape Shifting sculpture.
A constant battle between chaos and order.
Cut in clear acrylic bars, carved and painted. Mounted in a rotatable stainless-steel frame.
The work is a fusion of four essential geometric forms that each reveal themselves individually, emerging from the rhythmic chaos of the composite fusion, as the observer walks around, or turns, the pieceAs though, out of a swirling primordial chaos (such as the ”Cat’s Eye Nebula”) order, or even, in this case, differing orders, crystallize.
What the observer sees and understands depends literally on their physical point of view.
Changing position permits the observer to gain a new and different insight. Examining, walking around, or rotating the piece enables the observer to comprehend the crystallization of the different facets. Just as in life itself any event or manifestation to be clearly comprehended must be examined considering many and differing points of view.
The rotating panel is mounted on a trapezoidal plinth of stainless-steel rod, clear acrylic topped, in order to present it to the viewer at eye level, and to manifest itself as airy, light, and translucent as possible. Light itself, colour, and reflection are my mediums in this work. (plinth dimensions ; Base 40 x 40cm, Top 22 x 22cm, Height 120cm).
