About Marja Ouwerling
I live in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Westland, the greenhouse area in South Holland. My father was a grower and passed on his love for everything that grows and blooms. Drawing and painting were in me from an early age. My first job was as a plate painter at Royal Delft. After some wandering, I live in Westland again. I was a window dresser at jewelers and also set up the trade fair stand in Utrecht.
In principle, I am self-taught, as I have not followed any official art education. However, I have had lessons from many artists
- Xander Wellen
- Wim van 't Riet
- Inge Teunissen
- Wim Snijders
- Kees Fluitman
- Tanja van der Sijp
- Peter Vasilev
- Pien Hazenberg
- Zhou le Sheng
and eventually I found my own style. An important impetus for this was the training at the small TIKI in Breda, to become an artistic dynamic coach. That training gave me more insight into myself, allowing me to let go of realistic work and work more on my feelings. This is especially expressed in the series "Flowers On Water", which are flower still lifes with a lot of fantasy, patterns, and motifs.
- Sandrine Pelissier,
- Karen Knutson,
- Linda Wilder and
- Gustav Klimt are my sources of inspiration in the acrylic painting field
and for pastel drawing
- Bethany Fields,
- Karen Margullis and
- Susan Jenkins.
I am fascinated by pastel chalk and painting outdoors "plein air". I try to work as loosely as possible in layers over each other. And then it is important to create the right atmosphere by using striking colors and paying attention to the tonality. I know that this is crucial for the right experience of the work. What I want to convey is love for nature and care for Mother Earth, so that future generations can live with at least as much joy as I do.
Since 1995, I have participated in many exhibitions and also organized solo exhibitions.
In Kunsthuis18 in Naaldwijk, the Hofboerderij in Wateringen, in hospitals, a police station, a rehabilitation center, the Rai in Amsterdam, etc. My work is in private collections in different countries. These are commissioned works and free works.
At the moment, I am working on a painting that will probably be included in a museum collection.
