J. H. Wigell Paeonia
About the work
This peony blossom in its beautiful rose color tempted me to paint it in watercolor. First, for an accurate botanical illustration, a careful pencil drawing is the foundation. This is a typical historical illustration in that it illustrates the leaf shape, the bud, and the deteriorating flower as it ages. I have shown here how it is framed, with archival mats in two layers, the liner being the same rose color for an attractive presentation. Also there is a gilded wood frame which enhances the composition. The measurements shown include the outer edge of the frame. While I learned this traditional method and placement in classes at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, US, I quickly veered from this tradition and added backgrounds as well as plants alongside the subject. I exhibited there for 26 years with the Nature Artists' Guild. Packing and shipping is included in the price shown. #PerettiPaintings #Peonies #PeonyArt
