I was born in Schiedam and after half a year moved to the village of Rucphen. I feel like a Brabanter with heart and soul. I am married, have 2 children and 4 grandchildren, to my joy.

Education:

After years of only being engaged in "theoretical" courses, I have been delving into drawing and painting for about 15 years now. My passion for this is only growing. Because I had no education in the creative field before, my desire for a good education in this direction grew larger. I also wanted to understand art better. This led me to the IKO in Hoogstraten, where I found all these aspects, including following the art history lessons. In 2017 I graduated in drawing art, after which I happily started the painting course. In June 2021 I graduated in painting.

Materials:

The drawing materials I mainly work with are charcoal, Siberian chalk, and conté. In my last drawing year at the IKO, I started to "play" with the structure of the support. Such as drawing on wood, on thick watercolor paper, and on small canvases. This "playing" with supports and materials has continued in my painting. I have paintings of oil paint on linen but also strongly diluted acrylic on unprepared cotton and paintings on wood! This can sometimes lead to surprising results. I also find working with a lot of contrast important to achieve good work. Sometimes I finish paintings with marker or pastel. Always looking at what a canvas still needs to create an interesting image. When painting with oil paint, I often first make a base layer with (thick) acrylic base and then continue with oil paint.

Themes:

In my drawings, I have been searching for structure in the landscape. Ultimately, this resulted in objects influenced by the elements, such as beach poles, rocks, flowing water, and foam on the beach with a special current. Regarding painting, my theme still starts from this but has developed especially in the reflection in water. This fascinates me enormously. I find water/sea so fascinating because it is never the same, with a different play of lines and colors every time. I would like to "play" with color, it doesn't always have to be completely realistic.

However, at one point I found it refreshing to work with a different theme. Due to current events, this has become climate change/global warming. In the creative field, many images can be made from this, but I certainly hope to exhibit this to raise more awareness. There are certainly works to see here.

Make use of self-made photos or photos from the newspaper or magazine and then combine multiple photos and your own drawings to create an image, and while working, even more can emerge!

After the IKO, I now paint with great pleasure at Atelier de Raamberg in Klein-Zundert, at the Gele Huis in Princenhage, and for a long time at the Painters Club St. Joseph. At all these places, I find inspiration and can further develop myself.

Exhibitions are very worthwhile for me to participate in due to the contacts and conversations you can have here. This can yield new insights and inspiration!
