Laurens van Koppenhagen

In 1946, I was born in The Hague and attended HBS at the Haags Montessori Lyceum. Laurens van Koppenhagen studied at RITS (Rijks Institute for Theater and Cultural Dissemination) in Brussels. He obtained a diploma from the Image-Sound-Montage department there. Back in the Netherlands, he started working for Dutch television as a lighting designer; first employed by NTS and NOB, but later as an independent Lighting Designer at Trend Lighting and LD Design. Laurens created lighting designs and supervised their execution for many large television programs. He worked for all broadcasters and production companies such as Endemol and IDTV. For these companies, he also worked in Portugal, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Poland.

In 1993, Laurens started a gallery in Laren (NH) alongside his work as a Lighting Designer, where he organized exhibitions of modern paintings, sculptures, graphics, and photography. Since 2003, Laurens has used the name Owatmooi as both a website and a business name.

Since 2005, he has been active as an artist/photographer. He works as a photographer mainly outdoors. Whether it is landscapes, modern architecture, monumental churches, or elements from nature, the challenge is to create a special image. With those photos, he creates new compositions on the computer: DigiphotoArt - with sometimes 100 - 300 photos, fascinating, almost surreal images arise, of which the reality is always just a little different than one would think at first glance. He challenges the viewer to enter his fantasy world.

The resulting artworks are usually produced as sublimated prints on aluminum.
