About the work

This large landscape painting is based on the view I had from my 'Ute', during one of the daily trips into the town of Port Hedland, Australia. The painting shows this iron ore port town at the of the Northwest Australian Outback, just before cyclone Heidi moving in, back in the summer of 2013. Surrealistic silence, massive rain clouds and an ocre coloured sky. Life on Mars.

I first made my underpainting in acrylic and Gesso. This to create a solid texture for the following layers. Then I started working on multiple layers of a combination of thick and thin traits of acrylic, finished with a slightly glossy varnish.
