About Henk van Vessem

Henk van Vessem (Rotterdam, 1939)

Henk van Vessem is the artist of the grand gesture. Expressive and dynamic. He can be seen as a constant presence in the Dutch art circles. For years, his work has been displayed in a selective number of renowned galleries and is now part of private and corporate art collections both domestically and internationally. His work is also included in the art collection of the Royal House. His poetic touch is clearly recognizable in his art, as evidenced by the titles he gives to his paintings and screen prints. These guide the viewer towards a uniquely memorable experience. Henk van Vessem is an artist who paints with a grand gesture in strongly contrasting colors, at least as far as the canvases are concerned. The pastels are of a friendlier nature and display softer colors. In the drawings, the representations become almost transparent, and the emotional values of color give way to the spiritual values of transparent colors. The representations on the canvases are sculpted with paint and palette knife into expressionistic landscapes, where no fields or roads are to be found, but rather the signs of reflections of a mental nature.
