About Franz Hazelzet

Franz Hazelzet (1950) has been working full-time as a visual artist since 1983. His first exhibition dates from 1984. After that he exhibited in many places in The Netherlands, annually in his own studio at Landgoed Stoutenburg (near Amersfoort) and with the art collective Galerie Absoluut.

When painting, colour is the most important element. He works with paint – layer by layer – until meaning is created. This is also the first thing that will strike you about his work: through a special technique radiant colours appear on the canvas. For those who look longer, figures will form and dissolve in a different colour movements and light.

Franz's work is often perceived as mysterious or spiritual. The viewer is challenged to look longer and further: beyond the edge of the visible. From that moment of surrender, of being guided by the coloured areas, one arrives at a meaning of what one sees.
