About Donatella Marraoni
Donatella Marraoni embarked on her remarkable artistic journey in 1995 when she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, Italy, graduating with first-class honors in 1998. That same year, she moved to England, where she lived for five years.
Her career quickly took off, as she began exhibiting her work in prestigious private galleries and public venues both in Italy and internationally. She garnered significant awards and praise from specialized critics. In March 2014, she received an accolade from the Director of the Gallery Selenograd in Russia, marking the beginning of her global exhibitions and sales.
Women are the central figures in Donatella's paintings, depicted as protagonists in scenes of love, anticipation, passion, pain, abandonment, desire, and even perversion. She describes her works as emerging from chaos and confusion, characterized by strong, swift, unfinished, and scratchy lines. Donatella aims to evoke emotions and narrate life stories using a diverse range of media, including oil, ink, pigments, glass, cement, and coffee.
"Her women" explore themes of love and relationships, particularly her deep connection with her father, who was her first true supporter and enrolled her at the Academy. Although he has passed away, he remains a vital presence in her work, symbolized by the use of cement on canvas, a tribute to his trade as a mason. The series "letters of coffee" is dedicated to him, where she intimately expresses her thoughts and feelings.
Since her first exhibition in 1997, Donatella has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums both in Italy and abroad.
