About Ceciel Hattinga

In my work, I want to celebrate what you can do with colors on paper. Nothing more, but certainly not less. The inspiration that serves as a starting point comes from what I see around me, from interesting spots on the sidewalk to newspaper photos and inner images. The work mainly focuses on the painting process itself. Therefore, I never know in advance what the final result will look like. While painting and making collages, I am fascinated by the continuous alternation of letting go of control and taking the process back into my own hands. This at quite a high pace, as the acrylic paint dries quickly. Usually, abstract images emerge. Colorful. In the end, there is a 'snapshot' left, which is why the works usually do not have a title. Sometimes I work with chalk and/or sand through the acrylic paint. In the collages, I also incorporate used paper and 'wax paper'. Lately, I have also been making miniatures, whether in the form of booklets or not, mainly from leftover materials from the studio, acrylic paint, and street finds.
