About the work

Carmelo Buffoli explores the overlap of art and architecture in his notable work ‘The Diary of the Japanese House’ (2023). This conceptual artwork is an imaginary journey to Japan, consisting of texts, sketches, drawings, images and photographs. Culminating in a house, the Japanese house: a design with the potential to be built. In this Japanese house, there is a room for each imaginary city visited. The names of the five cities are real, but they are used as a decor and a metaphor, standing for the five elements used in Buddhism. The total, house and art, invites visitors to embark on their own imaginary journey.
