About Carla Dijs
Carla Dijs Netherlands 1954.
Carla Dijs was born in Diemen. Dijs spent most of her youth in Nijmegen. After her M.O. drawing training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem, she lived and worked for 18 years in the Groningen Hogeland.
Since 2004, Dijs has been back in Nijmegen, where she mainly creates figurative sculptures and is also the initiator of local art projects.
Carla Dijs is known for the primal feminine sensual sculptures she creates. The human body serves as the starting point, but the figure is never a realistic representation. "It is a sum of monumental impressions. Body shapes are fascinating, elusive, immeasurable to me. They represent feelings, and the sculptures must be smooth and highly touchable."
Most characteristic are the sculptures made of wood cellulose. A unique material that allows the artist to realize massive forms and subtle details in a sustainable end material.
