About the work

When I was traveling in Iceland in 2023, it was mainly the immense icebergs and the gigantic Vatnajökull glacier that you see lying in the distance - if you explore the south of the island. It makes you feel small and insignificant as a human compared to those gigantic natural elements. The icebergs that are melting - accelerated - and making their way to the open sea were also impressive. The glacier was formed 2000 years ago, so the ice that is now breaking off and ending up in the glacier lake is at least as old.

These icebergs were works of art in themselves. These images stuck with me and I wanted to incorporate them into my paintings.

When these works were finalized and I looked at them from a distance, a cold shiver ran through me. That can only mean that this - at least for me - is a successful piece of work. It was exactly screaming for attention: 'look at me'. It radiates a certain desolation. I just keep looking at it.
