Artist’s Bio

PerettiPaintings are the work of Marilyn Woerner Peretti who lives near Chicago, Illinois, US. She dabbled in art all of her school years (graduate of Purdue University) coming by these skills naturally. In mid-adult life she focused on nature art when becoming associated with the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, where she took classes in traditional botanical illustration beginning in 1992. She happily prepared for 2 group exhibits a year ( 6 paintings) there with the Nature Artists’ Guild. Her paintings have been exhibited in various places, including solo exhibits at the Oak Park Conservatory, The Theosophical Society, libraries, and the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. While many paintings were sold or gifted, now she is making available much of her remaining body of work. In more recent years she has worked in other medium - pen and ink, block prints, acrylic on canvas, and oil with cold wax, many of which are available here. She also has a talent for portraits, which are also available on this site. (Be sure to click on SERIES, to see the paintings grouped by subject.) All art is copyrighted.

Artist’s Statement

I grew up in Indiana, US, where we often visited a beautiful wooded area on weekends. As a youngster I came to feel the beauty and peace of the woods. In our home’s yard, my father reflected his own interest by planting flowering shrubs which are naturally found in the Indiana woods - - forsythia, mock-orange, redbud, and dogwood. I came to admire these delicate blossoms and their colors. So, meeting up with the Morton Arboretum’s purposes was quite satisfying and for 26 years I immersed myself in this art, joining the Nature Artists' Guild there, taking botanical illustration classes and exhibiting.  Through time I broadened my subjects to fruit, fungi, landscapes, owls, cranes, and especially portraits. I will be making more paintings available here as time goes by.  With our environment disintegrating, I wonder if these detailed renditions of nature will be the only record we will have of them in the future. Most watercolors are framed using archival materials, and a few are on paper, not framed. This will be indicated. Portraits in acrylic on canvas are what I am focusing on now, usually faces of people known around the world, for their dedication to peace and justice.
