About Magosja Turkawski
Muiderberg, Netherlands
Magosja Turkawski is a visual artist working in illustration, design, and painting. She studied at AKI in Enschede and Chelsea College of Art and Design in London from age seventeen, then graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1990. Early in her career she worked as a designer and art director for Dutch lifestyle magazines before transitioning to full-time painting in 2015.
Her work encompasses both portraits and abstract paintings. Since 2015, her practice has been shaped by the soak-stain technique developed by American artist Helen Frankenthaler, in which heavily diluted oil or acrylic paint is poured across the canvas. The diluted paint absorbs fully into the canvas, becoming pure color without material texture.
