Johan van der Veer was born in Sneek on February 19, 1951, and has lived in several Dutch towns including Middelburg, Groningen, Wytgaard, IJsbrechtum, Jorwert, and IJlst. He studied at Art Academy Minerva and Photography School Apeldoorn.
For 43 years, van der Veer worked as an object photographer at Museum Het Princessehof in Leeuwarden. His works are held in the collections of Fries Museum and Princessehof Leeuwarden, as well as in private collections. His work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions in Leeuwarden, Utrecht, and Sneek.
