Over het werk

Sketches for Flora I and II are based on photos Flora took on holiday in Italy: ‘Hey dad, a little tapestry!’ The fact that Flora is so preoccupied with her father’s work while on holiday shows how symbiotic the relationship is between father and daughter. Even though there will have been some teasing in her remarks, it says something about her engagement in what her father does. With these two tapestries, Flora is involved in the series as a co-creator. She has thus become not only the subject but also a participant. An interesting detail is that the height of ‘Sketches for Flora part II’ is also the height of Flora herself. Peter Hellemons believes these works are about abstractions of Flora. She took the photos, but what does that say about her, about her personality. He investigates who she really is and tries to discover this in what Flora makes, what she says, what she does and what she thinks. It seems impossible to find out who another person really is. Impossible to really know the other person, however much you love him or her.
