Taxman
Over het werk
NB. Available as ‘Titled - TAXMAN’ or ‘The Beatles’ Please specify.
Inspired by The Beatles song ‘Taxman’ in particular the lines “there's one for you nineteen for me” This was a commentary on the punitive tax system for the super rich in the 1960s. There was a 99 pence in the pound super tax.
This humorous artwork depicts the nineteen little taxmen with their briefcases and one solitary Beatle (probably a right handed John Lennon!). The UK Inland Revenue department at the time had a cartoon character called Hector who was supposed to make the tax system see approachable and friendly!
The style of the piece is influenced by my love of Pop Art (Andy Warhol) and Surrealism (Rene Magritte)
