Skunk Cabbage

The skunk cabbage is an illusive plant, popping up when you least expect, in a marshy area. A cold marsh in the month of March is not where you want to spend a lot of time. Yet, if you wish to study or see the skunk cabbage, you must frequent this place if you wish to see it before it has collapsed and disappeared! I love the curvy shape, about 1 ft high at full growth, and the color is amazing. Other artist colleagues led me to this area, and I made many a stop there in order to find the best specimen. I like using oil and cold wax for this illustration, since it gives texture, and I can roll the brayer over areas to blur and blend the colors of this mysterious plant.
