Fern Varieties

These amazing varieties of fern I found in the Oak Park Conservatory, an indoor greenhouse. Their shapes and lines are intriguing and beautiful. I used my photographs of these plants as references for my drawings, and then watercolor paint. I live in the Midwest of the U.S. so these would not be native here, thus attracting my eye even more. I used reds and purples to balance out the greens, and give depth to the portrayal. The measurement shown includes a 2 inch archival mat upon which the deckled edge watercolor paper is floating, a dramatic effect.
