Formal analysis art example

This portrait (portrayed on the left), dated 1985, by the South African artist, Idalet Emmerentia Haasbroek Pauw (1962 – 2008), features a graph-patterned that may illustrate four levels of consciousness in distinct colour codes. A grey block could symbolize the subconscious, evoking deep, introspective states. The red block may portray the physical conscious mind. The yellow-coloured block may reflect the mind's cognitive processes, while the blue coloured block may symbolize spiritual consciousness. The prominence of each level is visually conveyed by the size of the corresponding colour block. Later artworks by Idalet, support this interpretation, from top left to right: 2007.
