'I'm good, thank you'
Over het werk
On a hot summers day, I was heading to the beach through the city of Ostend and there he was. A man who lived in a small house without a garden had dressed up in white trousers and shirt, installing himself on a plastic chair in front of his house in a street crowded with tourists. He had turned his tv towards the window because he wanted to see the game, while enjoying being outside. People respectfully walked around him, never passing in between him and his tv just behind the window. This act of feeling free to do as you please without harming anyone made many a tourist frown, but I admired the man immediately. Too often we restrain ourselves from being comfortable because of the looks and expectations of others. This man was already in the abstract universe of my painting on that day.
This large painting (120x180) was the first in which I defined my unique technique of painting, combining different layers of acryl pouring, resin and pigments to realize stunning abstracts with a three dimensional feel. The glossy quality reflects you as a part of the painting, inviting you to look at yourself through the artwork.
