Over Elena Gantchikova

Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) is a French artist of Moscow origin, residing in Paris, an experimental multidisciplinary synesthetic artist, composer, pianist, and art historian/art critic.
At the heart of her art lies synesthesia - the ability to "hear" color and "see" sound - as well as mastery of artistic and musical techniques from various schools and eras, from academic to the most contemporary, and cutting-edge technologies: sound and image synthesis, programming.
She works in the techniques of drawing and painting, assemblage, collage, instrumental and electroacoustic musical composition, video editing and mixing, installation, and performance.
Her oeuvre represents a synthesis of painting, music, new media, and modern technologies, embodied in unique material-sound installations, collectible works of art, and musical performances (concerts).

Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen received her art education at the Moscow Art School and at home under the guidance of two artists: her grandfather Viktor Mathiesen, a student of the first Russian Impressionist, the painter Konstantin Korovin, who also emigrated to Paris, and her father Valery Ganchikov.
She received her academic musical education as a pianist, theorist, and composer at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
She studied the latest technologies, programming, and sound synthesis at IRCAM / Centre Pompidou under the direction of Pierre Boulez, and then at the Technical University of Berlin.
She conducted research in the field of art history and art technologies first at the Sorbonne under the supervision of Manfred Kelkel, a renowned scholar of the work of the first Russian synesthete, Alexander Scriabin, then at EHESS (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales) and CNRS under the direction of Hugues Dufourt, where she obtained a diplome d'etudes approfondies (DEA), and then at the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel.
She studied contemporary composition at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMD de Paris) with Gérard Grisey and at IRCAM with Brian Ferneyhough. She also collaborated extensively as an electroacoustic studio composer with IMEB - Bourges.

The synthesis of the arts is the very atmosphere in which her childhood unfolded.
From birth, she was taught and inspired by relatives-artists and teachers of various art forms-and their colleagues.
She was immediately immersed in a multifaceted education and creative experience across a wide range of disciplines that have accompanied her for as long as she can remember: exact sciences, humanities, chess, history, history of religions and art history, literature, painting, drawing, sculpture, piano, musical composition, music theory and history, harmony, polyphony, orchestration, theater, opera, choreography, and various sports.
Family, innate curiosity, a profound love for world science and art, and the need to create and to teach have shaped her into a harmoniously developed, thoughtful, and creative personality, deeply interested in all the latest scientific, technological, and cultural achievements of contemporary civilization.

Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) explores the fundamental connections between various art forms, striving to create holistic, immersive environments that appeal to all channels of human perception.
In her practice, synesthesia-the ability to "hear" color and "see" sound-mastery of artistic and musical techniques from various schools and eras, from academic to the most contemporary, as well as the ongoing adoption of the latest technologies as they evolve, become tools for creating works that transcend traditional media.
Her creative process is an interactive dialogue with matter.

Continuing the traditions of masters who sought the synthesis of the arts, Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) formulates the concept of a "harmonizing space" - an oasis of light and harmony where the viewer and listener find inner balance and clarity.
In response to the challenges of modernity, the artist creates "counter-worlds" - alternative models of existence woven from light, color, sound, and aroma.

Inheriting the artistic traditions of her family, Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) enriches this heritage with bold experiments and deep reflections on the role of the artist in the 21st century.
Her activities as a researcher, teacher, and cultural observer underscore her position as an intellectual artist whose work is inextricably linked to an understanding of contemporary culture.

Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) defines her work as a continuous search for and creation of a "total work of art" (Gesamtkunstwerk) for the 21st century.
Moving from painting and music to electroacoustic compositions, video art, and multimedia installations, the artist strives to create a polysensory experience capable of reformatting familiar modes of perception.
Her immersive installations and performances, in which color, sound, and form merge into a unified whole, appeal to the deepest levels of human perception.

In her works, Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) often lays down the "score" of future sound or multimedia installations, where color acquires a timbral coloring, and the line - a melodic length.
The use of photographs and paintings by her father, Valery Ganchikov, and grandfather, Viktor Mitisen, in her collages and assemblages is a complex game with cultural memory and personal history.

The works of Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) - whether it be a separate canvas, a musical composition, or a video - are self-sufficient artifacts.
However, it is in her large-scale installations and performances, where all the elements are combined into a single, carefully directed experience, that the ambitiousness of her artistic design is fully revealed.

Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) asserts herself as one of the most consistent and profound researchers of synthetic forms in contemporary art, whose work not only expands the boundaries of individual media, but also raises fundamental questions about the nature of perception, the role of art in the modern world, and the potential of the human spirit to create harmony.
Having accumulated during recent years of voluntary creative seclusion a vast body of new works of art, concepts, and projects, she is now open to collaborations and participation in international projects and festivals.
Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) is eager to showcase her art in exhibitions, festivals, and other cultural events, seeking to engage with audiences and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of contemporary art.
Elegantchikova (Elena Gantchikova - Mathiesen) invites curators, gallerists, interior designers, and contemporary art collectors to explore her collections of vibrant surrealistic and experimental innovative paintings created with digital painting techniques on luxurious modern materials, ranging from medium to three-meter formats.
She invites the viewer and listener on a journey through the labyrinths of her research and creative imagination, where everyone will discover something uniquely their own. музыкальной эстетики InterIMEC, автором обширного каталога работ.
