Hypervigilance

my mind’s a fortress
massive walls loomed up against the sky
I’m on high alert
scanning the environment
filtering information all the time
sights, sounds, looks, behaviors, smells
I’m watching you with a thousand eyes
dilated pupils, heart rate on fire
I‘ve been fixated on potential threats for all my life.
