Jim Gijbels: Transport and Amsterdam

Jim Gijbels was born in Amsterdam in 1960 and has spent his life drawn to means of transport—the subject that dominates his painting practice. He studied at de Vrije Tekenacademie in Amsterdam, following in the footsteps of his father, who also worked in oil. Based in his native city, Gijbels captures the everyday infrastructure and vehicles that give Amsterdam its character, from trams and train stations to the rooftops and streets he knows well. His work has been shown at the church in Monnickendam and at Dutch Art Weekend near Utrecht.
