Christo Gunawan: Art as Philosophy

16 August 2026

Christo Gunawan didn't start making art until he was 27, but by then he'd spent years thinking about what art could be. Born in the twentieth century, he carried with him generations of accumulated knowledge, and when he decided to pursue art seriously, he knew it wasn't simply a technical matter. In 1997, he applied to The Royal Academy of Art in the Hague to deepen his understanding of the discipline's philosophy and expression. After graduating, his work has been published in several magazines, reflecting an artist committed to originality and the careful development of his vision.
