Annejole Jacobs - de Jongh

Annejole Jacobs-de Jongh was born in Breda and has been making modern mixed-media portraits since 2003. She works on commission for private individuals and companies as well as independent projects. Her portraits are layered compositions built from digital images, photographs, texts, and scanned materials from art, history, music, literature, and contemporary sources, which she prints as backgrounds on canvas before painting over them.

Her subject matter often centers on women, including series titled "Classic women," "Famous woman," and "Woman of the world." She has also created series featuring love couples depicted against backgrounds of well-known love paintings, a "Made in Holland" series of recognizable Dutch people and cultural items, and works titled "Van Gogh" and "De Rotterdammers" that incorporate famous Rotterdam buildings, people, events, and brands. Her recent series "Take your time" compiles images, people, texts, photographs, and items spanning different eras.

In 2009, she won first prize in a national competition with a portrait of Maxima and exhibited at the CODA-Museum. She was selected for the 2015 exhibition "Ontpopt" at the Museum van Zandvoort as one of contemporary Dutch pop art artists. In 2016, her "Van Gogh" painting was chosen for the exhibition "125 variations on Van Gogh" at the museum of Breda. In 2019, she appeared on the television program "Sterren op het doek," where she created the winning portrait of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.

Jacobs-de Jongh lives and works in Rotterdam.
