SEO for artists: be found by people who search for your style

You do not need to beat Wikipedia. You need to be the obvious answer for a few very specific searches.

Aim for the searches you can actually win

"Art" is unwinnable. "Contemporary seascape painting Zeeland" is entirely winnable, and the person typing it is far closer to buying.

Write down five phrases someone would type if they wanted exactly what you make. Include your medium, your subject and, when relevant, your region.

Put those words where they count

In your page titles, your artwork titles, the first sentence of your bio and your descriptions. Not stuffed and repeated — used naturally, the way you would say them out loud.

"Oil on linen, painted on the Zeeland coast" does more for your visibility than any list of keywords ever will.

💡 Fill in the medium, size, year and tags for every work. Those fields feed the structured data that search engines and image search read.

Images need words too

Search engines cannot see paintings. They read filenames and alt text. Upload "storm-over-the-shallows-oil-on-linen.jpg" rather than "IMG_4821.jpg", and image search starts working for you.

A large share of art discovery still happens through image search. This one habit is worth more than most technical tricks.

Fresh, original text beats clever tricks

Search engines reward pages that change and that contain text found nowhere else. A short news item, a new series introduction or a studio update every month or two does more than any keyword tool.

Never copy your bio from a gallery page that already publishes it. Duplicate text competes with itself.

Be patient, then be consistent

A new domain typically takes several weeks to settle. Add your site to Google Search Console, share the link where you already are, and keep publishing.

SEO is not a campaign you run once. It is the slow compounding of a site that keeps being updated.

Коротко

Pick five specific phrases, use them naturally in titles and descriptions, name your image files properly, publish something new regularly, and give it a few weeks.
