Instagram for artists: post less, connect more

Posting daily into silence is exhausting and rarely sells anything. A slower, more human approach works better.

Followers are not the goal

Ten thousand followers who scroll past mean less than four hundred who read your captions and open your e-mails. Chase conversation, not counts.

The only number worth watching is how many people move from the platform to your own website or list.

Show the making, not only the finished work

Finished pieces get admiration; unfinished ones get replies. A first layer, a mixed palette, a photograph of the reference, a mistake you had to paint over — that is what people respond to.

It is also far easier to keep up: you are already doing the work, you are simply photographing it.

💡 Take two photos every studio session, one wide and one close. After a month you will have plenty to post without ever staging anything.

Write captions like messages, not billboards

Say what happened, what you were after, what you changed your mind about. Ask something real at the end if you feel like it. Do not end everything with a call to buy.

Hashtags help discovery a little. Five to eight specific ones beat thirty generic ones.

Reply to everyone at the start

Early on, the fastest growth comes from being a good conversationalist: answering every comment, replying to messages properly, commenting thoughtfully on other artists you genuinely admire.

It does not scale forever, and that is fine. It only needs to work until your list is large enough to carry you.

Always point home

Your bio should link to your own website, not to a link-in-bio maze. Mention your list when you have something worth joining for.

Treat every platform as a place you rent. Move the people you meet there to a place you own.

Kort fortalt

Post the process a few times a week, write like a human, reply to everyone, use a handful of specific hashtags, and always link back to your own site.
