Frank Ruysschaert: Portraits in Bold Color
14 augustus 2026
Frank Ruysschaert grew up in Bruges, Belgium, and studied both art and architecture there before stepping away from painting. Two years ago, he returned to the practice with a focused approach: he digitally alters photographs, then translates them onto canvas in oils, usually working at 50 by 40 centimeters. His portraits emerge in bold blues and reds, built up with thick impasto and high contrast, capturing faces with an expressive, sometimes melancholic intensity. Ruysschaert also takes commissions for custom work, bringing his layered process to whatever his clients envision.
