Duc Tran: Self-Taught Painter of Light and Land
Duc Tran was born in Hue in 1964 and showed early promise as an artist, but chose to study chemistry at university to honor his parents' wishes. He graduated as a chemical engineer and worked at a hydroelectric plant from 1987 to 1999, a period he considers his most creatively fertile. During those years, teaching himself to paint and developing his own style, Tran cultivated a distinct artistic voice. Now based in Morrow, he continues to paint subjects drawn from the natural world—moonlit rivers, fields, sunrises, and flowers—working in a self-taught tradition that values patient observation and personal vision over formal training.
