Last weeks for Ancient Egypt in Hong Kong — and one late-night opening
If you are anywhere near West Kowloon this month, the clock is running. Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums closes at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on 31 August 2026, after nine months.
The museum has announced extended opening hours and daily admission for the whole August school holiday, and a one-off after-hours event, A Pharaoh's Rendezvous, on 19 August.
There is plenty left after it goes. Heavenly Horses: Masterpieces from the Palace Museum runs until March 2027, and Treasures of Global Jewellery from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Body Transformed — five millennia of adornment, on loan from New York — stays until 19 October. A new thematic exhibition in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Series, A Day in the City: An Experimental Study of Things Across Time, opened on 31 July and runs to February 2027.
The museum also confirmed that its founding director, Dr Louis Ng, will step down in January 2027.
Ancient Egypt Unveiled runs until 31 August 2026 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, West Kowloon Cultural District, 8 Museum Drive, Kowloon. Open daily except Tuesdays.
