Why we take no commission — ever

Why we take no commission — ever

Sell a painting for €2,000 on one of the big art marketplaces and you might keep €1,000. The rest goes to the platform. That is the normal state of affairs online: Saatchi Art takes 40% of an original, Singulart around half, Artmajeur 35% unless you pay for a plan.

We do it differently. Online Gallery takes 0% commission — on every plan, including the free one. The buyer pays the artist directly, through the artist's own payment link or PayPal address. We are never in the money flow, so there is nothing for us to take a cut of.

That is not generosity, it is a choice about what we sell. We earn from services: a subscription for those who want their own website, a domain name, extra tools. Not from your work. It keeps the incentives honest — we have no reason to push a sale you do not want, and no reason to keep you and your buyer apart.

It also changes something quieter. On commission platforms, contact between artist and buyer is often blocked, because a conversation outside the platform is a lost fee. Here you simply talk to each other. Many artists tell us the second sale comes from that first conversation.
