Sharjah Biennial 17: What remains, sits restive — Sharjah Biennial

Sharjah Biennial 17 examines how the present is troubled by unlived pasts and defeated projects of modernity. Rather than dormant, these remainders continue to shape current politics of time and space through restive rhythms.
Histories resurface not as pure recurrence but as residues and morphed processes actively informing the present. The biennial grounds itself in this common theme across two distinct curatorial approaches, each articulated by one of the two curators: Angela Harutyunyan and Paula Nascimento.
The exhibition runs from January to June 2027 at Sharjah Art Foundation venues.
