Reko Rennie's public art commission at Sydney Fish Market — Sydney Contemporary

Reko Rennie's commissioned work ALWAYS (2026) extends Sydney Contemporary's 10th edition beyond Carriageworks into the city. Presented by Ames Yavuz and curated by José Da Silva, Director of UNSW Galleries, the installation is displayed at the new Sydney Fish Market.
Rennie's distinctive geometric patterning and urban visual language explore the politics of visibility, place and identity. Drawing on his Kamilaroi/Gamilaroi/Gamilaraay heritage and background in graffiti, the work challenges preconceived ideas of Aboriginal art while asserting the visibility and complexity of contemporary urban Aboriginal identity.
The installation is supported by Destination NSW and was free to visit at Sydney Fish Market until 13 September 2026.
