10th edition with ambitious city-wide installations program — Sydney Contemporary

Sydney Contemporary celebrates its 10th edition from 3–6 September 2026 at Carriageworks, bringing together more than 100 galleries from nine countries and 500 artists. For this milestone year, the Fair launches its biggest installations program yet, extending contemporary art beyond the venue into Sydney's public realm.

Three commissioned projects activate the city before and during the Fair. At Sydney Fish Market, Reko Rennie presents work exploring histories of Aboriginal culture and identity through geometric patterning and urban iconography, free to visit from 27 August to 16 September. At Pier Pavilion in Barangaroo, Joan Ross transforms the space with animated worlds reframing Australian colonial history in her signature hi-vis yellow, open 27 August to 7 September. Inside Carriageworks, the Fair features 12 large-scale installations curated by José Da Silva.

Additional commissions include Mike Hewson's transformation of the Sydney Contemporary Café into a shared sculptural setting blurring boundaries between art, architecture and gathering, and projects celebrating Billy Apple®'s legacy exploring artistic labour, branding, value and systems shaping contemporary art.
