10th edition celebrates with public installations across Sydney — Sydney Contemporary

For its 10th edition milestone, Sydney Contemporary is expanding beyond the fairgrounds with its biggest installations program yet, supported by Destination NSW. Public artworks will appear at Sydney Fish Market and Pier Pavilion before the Fair opens, making contemporary art accessible across the city.

Reko Rennie's installation at Sydney Fish Market (27 August – 16 September) brings histories of Aboriginal culture through his distinctive geometric patterning and urban iconography. At Pier Pavilion, Barangaroo, Joan Ross transforms the space with animated worlds reframing Australian colonial history through her signature hi-vis yellow aesthetic (27 August – 7 September).

Inside Carriageworks, 12 large-scale installations are curated by José Da Silva, alongside other commissions including Mike Hewson's transformation of the Sydney Contemporary Café and a celebration of Billy Apple®'s legacy exploring artistic labour and value systems.
